Are you strong in your faith, or are you on the fence? Do you believe that you have a choice between living eternity in heaven or hell? Do you spend time in prayer? Do you read and study the Word of God?
Until recently, I would have answered ‘no’ to most of the above. I believed in God, and believed that Jesus died on the cross, along with the certainty that there was a heaven and hell. I spent very little time praying, if I remembered to do it at all, and hadn’t read the Bible in so many years I can’t tell you how long it had been. Why? Basically, I was on the fence. I guess I could say that I knew, deep inside, that my faith wasn’t where it should be, but I had every excuse in the world for not following God more faithfully.
there aren’t any good churches left any more, they are all political
I’m too busy today, I’ll read tomorrow
I am a good person, surely God won’t send me to hell
I don’t need to pray, God knows what I’m thinking anyway
God knows what’s in my heart, why do I have to confess my sins?
what good does it actually do me to spend my valuable time reading the Bible?
I’m doing pretty good on my own without God in the center of my life, why should I complicate it?
Do any of these excuses sound familiar to you? Apparently, God wasn’t willing to let me stay there and gave me a huge nudge! God clearly tells us, in no uncertain terms, that we will either stand with him, or we won’t. There is no middle ground for God!
Matthew 12:30Matthew 12:30
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

If you are someone who’s faith is on the fence, at some point you will need to pick a side. We have a gigantic decision to make in our life. Do you want eternal life in heaven with Jesus? Or do you want to spend eternity in hell? Of course, if you have indifference to God here on earth, why would you want to spend eternity with Him? Then again, you may not be indifferent to God. You believe in Him, you believe that Jesus died on the cross, you believe in prayer, you believe in the Bible, and you make sure to attend church each week, but that’s about the extent of it and you believe that if you acknowledge all of the above, that you are good to go! You’ll surely be spending eternity in heaven.
Let’s see what Jesus says about being ‘lukewarm’.
Revelation 3:16-19Revelation 3:16-19
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
WP-Bible plugin But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. So I advise you to buy gold from me-gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
Let me ask a few simple questions…if you knew that you were going to die in 4 hours, what would be your priority? What would consume your thoughts? Would your eternity cross your mind? Are you strong in your faith, or are you on the fence? Do you know where you will be spending eternity?
