Entering Into a New Year, Fill it With Hope, Joy, and Peace

New Year

As we find ourselves, once again, entering into a new year, fill it with hope, joy, and peace.  I know there may be some that fluff this idea off, and think ‘yeah, right‘.  I know that 2013 has been a very difficult year for some.  Many have lost their homes, a lot have lost their jobs, and several of us have experienced loss of a loved one.  A matter of fact, I really don’t know anyone who hasn’t had some form of tribulation in their life this past year, and regardless whether you personally experienced it yourself, or someone else that you know, it effects you, nonetheless.

I am a woman of faith.  I love Jesus Christ and submit my life in His hands!  I believe that He was born into this world as a man without sin, took our sin and died on the cross, and arose three days later and ascended into Heaven.  He did all of this for us, to provide us a way of salvation; saving us from our sins.  I wasn’t even born and He hung on that cross for me!  Wow!  For me, thinking that someone that didn’t even know me, loved me that much that He would give His life for me is just beyond words!  This man, Jesus Christ, was beaten, scorned, mocked, and made to carry His own cross to Calvary!  I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have been asking for forgiveness of these people who had inflicted so much pain and misery upon me!  But He was different, oh yes He was, and still is!

Luke 23:34Luke 23:34

Now, I don’t have any way of knowing your spiritual situation.  I don’t know if you are Christian, or a lost soul.  Maybe, you believe in another god instead of Jesus Christ.  If you are not saved,  I can only rest in the comfort that if you are reading these words, that God is drawing you near to Him and your heart is under conviction.

John 3:16-17John 3:16-17
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

peace hope and joy

For a nonbeliever, all of this is so hard to understand.  They look at us and see a hope in our eyes, and joy and peace in our hearts.  How can we experience the hardships of life as everyone else, but yet be rejoicing?

Romans 5:3-6Romans 5:3-6
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. in due time: or, according to the time

God left us His words; His promises; His prophesies, and it can all be found in the Bible.  Many have read the Bible and are quite familiar with the contents. Some may even be able to quote a majority of scripture.  But knowing what is in the Bible, and believing and living by what is in the Bible are two totally different things.  When we submit ourselves to God, we put our entire life in His hands.  He has the reins and from that point on, He guides and directs our footsteps.

How can we do this?  God never once made a reference in the Bible indicating that our life would be easy.  Why should it be?  Jesus Christ suffered much for our salvation, why should we think we are better than He, believing that our life should be a bowl of cherries?  We are all sinners and come short of the Glory of God [Romans 3:23Romans 3:23
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

].  So, does that mean that when we are saved and put our life in God’s hands that we aren’t sinners anymore?  Absolutely not!  But, we are forgiven if we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness.

1 John 1:9-101 John 1:9-10
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

All of this is done through prayer and obedience to God’s Word.  As we become more familiar with the Word of God, we begin to see the areas of sin in our life; we are made aware of our sinful nature by the Holy Spirit that is within us.  We are thankful for everything in our life, good and bad, and communicate this with God through prayer.

37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.

39 Turn away my reproach which I fear:  for thy judgments are good.

40 Behold, I have longed after thy precepts:  quicken me in thy righteousness.

New Year

As we leave 2013 behind and move forward into 2014, we go with great expectations.  Beginning the year with God in your life will be fulfilling beyond any expectation you may have, and will bring much hope, joy, and peace into your life.  He has promised us so many blessings.  Hope, joy, and peace are only the beginning of a life with Christ!
