Why Do Only Some People Believe in Jesus Christ?

Jesus

Why do only some people believe in Jesus Christ?  Why not all?

We have much diversity in our world today.  Besides Christianity, there are many different religions that have different gods displayed, we have Satanist who place Satan as their god, and then we have Atheist who profess to believe in no god at all.  This is a very general statement as we all know, because when you begin to look at each category, you begin to see sub-categories, etc., etc.
But, the question remains, why is it that some people believe in the One True God; The Creator; God Almighty; The Alpha and Omega; Jesus Christ, The Son of God, and some don’t?  Why is it that when Christians witness to others about Jesus Christ, or when they share a testimony about how God has changed their life they often are mocked or shunned?  I have heard many accuse Christians as being judgmental, or they are trying to ‘shove religion down my throat’.  I have heard others charge Christians with ‘brainwashing’ or ‘being crazy’.  These are examples of what I see to be excuses for rejecting the message of God.  Let’s face it, being a Christian isn’t easy, especially in today’s world.  We aren’t a popular faith among those who don’t believe in Jesus, and we are already seeing an increased number of Christians being persecuted.

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

When Jesus walked this earth, he was hated and despised by many.  They conspired against him, which eventually led to His death.  In Matthew and Luke, Jesus is forewarning believers that we will be hated by many, even family and friends, to the point that we may be put to death.  As a Christian, we should expect this.  We must also remember that when we receive this treatment, it is not directed at us personally, but is a true rejection of the message of God.
I believe that Jesus was very clear in the scripture.  In the Bible, we are given what I call ‘guidelines‘.  It shows us, as believers in Jesus Christ, what is expected of us.

We could look at it this way:

When we accept Christ, we have accepted a new job.  When one takes on a new job, they are given a ‘job description’.  This is our Bible.  When you start a new job (accept Christ), you have many questions, so you refer to your job description (Bible) for the answers.  Sometimes, you just can’t find an answer (the mysteries of God), but you accept it (faith) and go on.  This is a really good job with excellent benefits (eternal life in heaven), so you decide to share it with others (witness and testimony).  Some will put in an application at the same place (accept Christ as their Lord and Savior), others will just say it’s not their cup of tea (reject the message of Christ and Salvation).  You know in your heart how much this job will benefit others (the lost souls) so you try to talk to them (witness) a couple more times.  There are some that begin to see your excitement about and love for the job (their hearts are softened) and they decide that maybe this job would be good for them too (they dedicate their life to Christ).  As you progress in your new job (grow in faith), you still rely on your handbook, or job description (Bible), for answers.  But now, you find that your job description is pretty much at the tip of your tongue (filled with the Holy Spirit) and that you can recite quite a bit of what is included (scripture) within the handbook.  Even though this job brings you great joy and peace (salvation), and provides you with a huge retirement fund (eternity in heaven), there are some that continuously berate and harass you (nonbelievers) for reasons you can’t understand.  You are doing your job as you believe you should (a child of Christ), and you are dumbfounded at how others treat you (hate and persecution).  You may even question the validity of your job, but you have personally seen the impact this job (following Christ) has made in your life, and other’s lives around you.  You choose to stay the course (remain faithful to God), and continue to receive the benefits (continuous grace and mercy), knowing that one day you will enjoy the promised retirement package (eternal life in heaven with God).

Bible

Even looking at the Bible scientifically, it has been proven to be accurate.  But, if you are someone who still doesn’t believe, reading and studying the Bible yourself should be enough to make you wonder.  Especially in today’s world.  There are so many claims in the Bible that we can visually see unfolding around us in every part of the world, how can you not give it a second thought?  So, the question remains…why do so many people reject the message of the Bible and turn away from God?  If you have a book in front of you that is scientifically accurate, and it’s predictions (prophecies) have and are coming true, why would you still make statements that it is a book of false writings or make claims in the attempt to delegitimize it?  Of all the scripture included in the Bible, there are many that clearly tell us about rejecting God, but there are several that always stick in my mind:

John 3:16-18John 3:16-18
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Keeping these scriptures in mind, it is very difficult, for me personally, to conceive why anyone would not believe in Jesus Christ.  But as I deepen my study into the scripture, it becomes evident why some will never believe in Jesus Christ.  You see, salvation is a gift from God.  It is not something that we receive because of something that we do.

So, how does all this work?  God does not want any one man to perish into the depths of hell, but unfortunately, there will be some that do.  God begins by drawing you close to Him; by knocking at your heart’s door.

This is where YOU come in.  YOU make a choice.  YOU will either accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, or you will reject Him.  Your decision will forever determine your eternity and where you will spend it.  God will not force himself on you, but he will continue to nudge you gently, trying to bring you near to Him.  If you continually reject Him, choosing sin over God, your heart will eventually be hardened to ever receiving Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Satan

Satan, the god of this world, is a mighty opponent.  He is constantly present, tempting us in every way, shape, and form, to get us to fall into sin.  He doesn’t want us to be a believer of Jesus Christ.    He is continuously tempting us with money, sex, status, pride, etc., etc. [when in Spiritual Warfare, see The Whole Armour of God]

There are many people who say that they believe  in Jesus as Lord.  But, believing in Jesus Christ isn’t enough.  We must also put our faith in Jesus Christ.  Even Satan and his demons believe that there is only One True God.

You see, Satan (Lucifer) was an angel.  He was a model of perfection; beautiful in every way.  Whatever position he held in heaven, it was an influential one.  We see in Revelation 12:4Revelation 12:4

Pride!  Arrogance!  Vain!  Conceited!  Haughty!  This is where I believe disbelief all begins…with pride.  I have heard many say “I am not a sheep, I am quite capable of thinking for myself!  I don’t need to be led around like a farm animal!”,  “I don’t need any book to tell me how I should live!”, or “why do I need God?  I’m doing just fine on my own”.  All of these, among many more, are statements of pride.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today, I find myself lost and alone without You in my life.  My eyes have been focused on the things of the world instead of You and I am so sorry.  Lord, I am a sinner and need your forgiveness.  I know that you sent your only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to take my place on the cross.  His death and resurrection were for me.  His blood shed at the cross washed me of my sins; past, present, and future.  I open my heart and accept Him as my Lord and Savior.  I thank you, dear Heavenly Father, for my salvation and all that you have blessed me with.  I thank you for the promise of eternal life.  I thank you for Your grace and mercy on a sinner such as me.  I submit my life to you, Oh Lord.  Make me usable to bring Glory to Your Holy Name.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
