Thankful For My Life: Sharing Gratitude Series

gratitude

Gratitude.  What is gratitude?  There are many variations on the definition, but essentially it is ‘the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness’.  Synonyms are:  gratefulness, thankfulness, thanks, appreciation, indebtedness, recognition, acknowledgment, and credit.

In America, we celebrate Thanksgiving each year in November, and it is considered a major holiday.  Most people will be off from work, or at least have their hours decreased, so that families can spend the day together.  It is celebrated by family, and often friends, gathering together over a large meal.

When my friend, Corinne from Everyday Gyaan, invited me to participate in her Gratitude Series, I couldn’t say no.  Being a Christian site, I began to study everything that the Bible shared on gratitude, or being thankful.  There are so many passages that include scripture regarding this topic, but when you begin to get more specific in your study of gratitude, you find that God has so much more to say about being thankful.

gratitude

Each morning, we awaken from sleep, opening our eyes to another day.  Do we begin our day by thanking God for the many blessings He has given us?  Do we recognize our short-comings and ask for His guidance and strength during this day?  Many times, we are so very rushed that we forget to take that time to bow our heads and be thankful for everything that we have, whether it be good or bad.  Romans 8:28Romans 8:28
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

tells us that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him.  When we begin to realize that even the bad in our life has a purpose, we can begin to be truly thankful.

When we remove the emphasis on material objects in our life as a measure of our wealth, we can begin to see the blessings that we are given, and it becomes visible to us just how much we really have.

I am thankful for:

gratitude

I am also thankful for each day that the LORD gives me, surrounded by the beauty that only He could create.  I am thankful for the warmth of the sun, or the cool breeze that each day presents.  I thank God for my husband and our two children, our health, our home, our finances, our means of transportation, our church and church family, and our sustenance; physical, emotional, and spiritual.  I am thankful that God knows our needs and always provides for me and my family.  I am thankful for all of the abilities that God gave me.  I am thankful for the love that God placed in my heart to share with others.  I thank God for the strength and endurance that He gives me each day to complete the tasks that He lays before me.  I am thankful for the many promises that God gave us in His Word, and the grace and mercy that He has for all of His children.  I am thankful for the wisdom and understanding that God gives me to share His word with others.  Most of all, I am thankful that God uses me in a mighty way to glorify His Holy Name.

So many times, Jyothi, people are angry that bad things happen in our lives. But, in reality, without anything bad occurring, how would we ever come to appreciate the good times? Also, I believe that God uses the bad to teach us something; to give us the experience that we may need down the road to help someone else that goes through the very same thing. Thank you for visiting!

Thank you. I have missed everyone as well. As you can see, my life has been taken down another path, and it doesn’t always allow me the time to come to visit. That doesn’t mean that I don’t think about all of you often, and keep you all in my prayers. I am going to make a conscious effort to spend more time with you all in the group 🙂

Like you, Mary, I’m so grateful to God each and everyday for all His marvelous gifts. I read the other day that the first step toward happiness is being grateful. I believe it!
    Blessings, my friend!

Don't be shy! We would love to hear from you!
