Armor of God

When we hear someone say “Put on the whole armor of God”, what exactly are they speaking about?  Ephesians clearly outlines six pieces of armor that we should dress ourselves each day as we arise to face our day.  This Armor of God protects us against Satan’s attacks.

Ephesians 6:10-17Ephesians 6:10-17
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. flesh...: Gr. blood and flesh spiritual...: or, wicked spirits high: or, heavenly 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. having...: or, having overcome all 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

10 A final word:  Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.  12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.  13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil.  Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.  14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.  15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.  17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Armor of God

As Christians, we battle daily against the powerful evil forces of fallen angels headed by the devil, who is a vicious fighter.

1 Peter 5:81 Peter 5:8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Stay alert!  Watch out for your great enemy, the devil.  He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

In order to endure these evil attacks, we must depend on God’s strength and utilize every piece of God’s armor on a daily basis.  1 John 5:191 John 5:19
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

tells us that we know we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.

When we go shopping, we make sure that we take money to pay for our purchases.  When we  attend a meeting, we take paper and pen for notes. In other words, in every part of our life, we prepare ourselves.  Why then, would we venture out into this world without preparing ourselves with the armor of God to protect us from Satan?
