Am I Who God Wants Me To Be?

who am i

Who am I?  Am I who God wants me to be?  Most assuredly!

When you ask someone who they are, how many of you get the response “I am lawyer” or “I am teacher”?  Or an answer similar, based on that person’s occupation.  Why do we define ourselves according to what we do in this life?  Some of you may even find yourself fitting your child into that same category…“My son is a doctor” or “My daughter is a journalist”.

I believe all of this is just simply a description of what we do each day while we are spending time on this earth.  As we begin our life as an adult, there may be something that interests us, but is that truly what God has planned for us?    Is this our purpose in life?

Proverbs 19:20-21Proverbs 19:20-21
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. 21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

, God created us in His own image.  He has a purpose for each of us.  But how are we to know if we are who God wants us to be?

When you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and invite Him into your heart, his Spirit resides within you.  You turn your life; your being, over to Christ.    Through prayer and devotions, He will guide you through your day.  When you are not certain of what you should be doing with your life, or where you should be going, prayer is powerful.  Allow His Spirit to give you the answers you seek.

It is so true, Mary, that so many of us define who we are by what we do. I think when someone asks, “Who are you?”, we should respond, “I am a child of God.”
    Beautiful post, my friend!

Mary, I love this new blog. How long have you been here? I believe my 17-year-old daughter will benefit from this, so I’m sharing with her. We all need our identities to be in Christ alone, not in what we do – as the world defines us. I need no title except, as the Shulamite woman called herself, “I am my Beloved’s…” How about “Beloved” to define who we are?

Hey Debra! I believe I opened it New Year’s Eve this year. I wasn’t completely satisfied about the look of it, but God finally said ‘no more wasting time’ and strongly prompted me to put it out there in the public. I guess I was trying to make it about ‘looking nice’ when all He was concerned about was ‘sharing content’ 🙂
Yes, do share with your daughter. I hope she finds something that she enjoys. I try to keep the posts short and to the point, but that’s not always possible for me. Sometimes, I get really long-winded lol.
      ‘Beloved’? Perfect Debra!

Don't be shy! We would love to hear from you!
